From the end of March, people will start to notice some changes to the NHS App.
According to NHS Digital, the app will begin to look different as updates are rolled out over the coming weeks. For some people, the update will happen automatically, and others may see a message asking them to update the NHS app.
What is changing?
A new “App help” button at the top of each screen will take users directly to support information.
Users will be able to view and manage their personal details, app settings and health choices (such as their organ donation decision) in a new profile area. From here, people will also be able to manage health services for others, for example, family members they support.
It will be quicker and easier to find key services, such as appointments, prescriptions and test results from the new homepage.
Information previously found in the GP Health Record, such as appointment notes and test results, will now appear within core health categories on the homepage, making them easier to find.
What will the app look like?
You can watch a preview video to see how the updated app will look. NHS Digital has said that this is not the final version, but it gives an idea of what the new design will look like.
Will this affect GP systems?
These changes only affect what people see in their app. There will be no changes to GP clinical system settings for staff.
Why are these changes being made?
The updates aim to make the app easier to use and more accessible. NHS Digital has said testing showed that people were more likely to find what they were looking for the first time and described the new version as simple and easy to use.
The updates are based on research with over 1,000 users, including accessibility testing, and were designed working with healthcare professionals and clinical safety experts.
