As part of the Government's 10-year plan to help improve healthcare in England, some significant changes are taking place. These changes will affect how local services are planned and delivered across Berkshire.

Local Changes

A new NHS Thames Valley ICB (Integrated Care Board) is being developed. This will involve merger of BOB (Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ) and Frimley ICBs to form a larger body covering much of the Thames valley.

Thames Valley ICB will officially launch in April 2026. Meanwhile, East Berkshire has joined the new group.

More about ICBs

Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) are NHS organisations that plan and fund local health and care services. They work with GPs, hospitals, councils, and other partners to:

  • Improve overall health in communities

  • Reduce health inequalities

  • Ensure access to high-quality care for everyone

More about the new Thames Valley ICB

These changes are inline with the Government's 10 year Health Plan and wider reforms for the NHS and public services. The new Thames Valley ICB will serve 2.5 million people across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, and work to:

  • Plan services that are shaped around needs of diverse communities

  • Tackle health inequalities

  • Spend NHS money more carefully and avoid waste
